Poker is a sport of individuals played through the medium of playing cards. A tell is a pattern that indicates the relative strength of a competitor’s hand. If you play online poker, general tells are composed of betting sequences and the amount of time to act. Real life poker at the betting house offers a better opportunity to identify tells. Along with time tells and betting sequences, players have physical tells. Players often telegraph the strength of their hand through body language, movements of their eyes, breathing rates, and the tennor of their voice. Poker is a sport of emotion and a majority of gamblers cannot constrain their feelings when money is involved. In order to spot a tell you need to accurately watch your competitors on each and every hand. Look for any kind of wagering sequence or body tell that correlates with the strength of their hand. If an opposing player always breaths deeply when he has a huge hand, that’s a tell for extreme strength. If a challenger always stakes his weak hands with a twitch of his wrist, that’s a tell for extreme weakness.
Tells permit you to see further than your own hand and into your competitor’s brain. Focus on all the things that your competitor does while he plays a hand and try to link each play to a given strength of their cards. With the opportunity to notice tells on your opponent, the cards really do not matter. If your opponent shows you that he is weak, you will be able to raise him with any hand with the understanding that he’ll fold. If your competitor indicates you that they are strong, you will be able to drop out on really strong hands. There is more to poker than just the hand you are given. Concentrate on your competitor’s body language and your earnings will soar.
