Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
