Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
