Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
