Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While playing net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player.
