Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
