Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
